Cliff Cornell a Cleveland Ohio industrialist put his name and the name of Cleveland Flux Company on numerous promotional items which were given as gifts to friends and customers at Thanksgiving time. An accompanying card said he was sorry he couldn’t join them, but “place the jug on your table and I’ll be with you in spirit “. In 1956 Cornell commissioned Doulton to create a portrait toby jug of himself, designed in the image of Winston Churchill as he was a great admirer of the prime minister.
